chloe

I worked with this little girl on Friday for a client. I wish I could share more, but it'll have to wait for the fall.

going places

I took photos of this darling girl, Briana Oakley, for her acting/modeling portfolio. Mom wrote me last week to say she is going to be part of the Maury's Most Talented Kids 2009 competition on March 3rd. You can vote for her at MauryShow.com. To hear her sing on YouTube go to: youtube.com

how I got all those rose petals

baby couture magazine

So I was doing a shoot for Baby Couture Magazine for the spring 2008 issue. I had the concept of "April Showers bring May flowers." Not that unique, but I'm thinking shower curtains as backdrops, kids in shower caps, and lots of flowers. So, I head out on a very rainy day to procure flowers from a certain chain discount club warehouse store. I see this woman in the flower department removing the petals OFF roses. So I'm like, uh, what are you going to do with those petals? Throw them away, she replies. May I throw them away for you? After some discourse, yes, she agrees that I may throw them away for her. Half an hour later, I'm walking out of a certain store with a few large boxes of rose petals.

Voila! I've got my third cover for Baby Couture! The cover model happens to be a local actress who worked with my son on Story about a Witch. The mag picked her, so it was just one of those coincidences that we knew each other.

red shoes on mission

I went thrifting for a bit yesterday on Mission Street (Goodwill, Thrifttown, etc.), mainly looking for props for some upcoming shoots (bought a bag of buttons, vintage shoe horns, and some hangers with crocheted/knitted covers...hmmm, wonder what those are for?).

mural, molested

I like to take pictures of graffiti and tagging all over my neighborhood and the city. Recently I came across a long wall on Alemany Blvd. that has murals painted on it, covered in tagging.

the shower shot

Photobucket

I was going through some old photos and found this shot of my son. It won a photography contest for Parenting Magazine many, many years ago (my son is now thirteen). I'll never forget the day the prize package came - a photo printer, a camera, and some other goodies. It was such a thrill!

nasimiyu designs nyc trunk show

Couture Fashion Week is coming right up and Kenyan-born jewelry designer Nasimiyu will have her work showcased on the runway.
She will also be having a trunk show by-appointment.
For more details get contact info from Nasimiyu Designs. As always, a portion of the profits will go to the organization she co-founded, Born-to-Aid, which helps needy children in Kenya.
This is a photo I took of her son modeling one of Nasimiyu's creations.

emmy on the beach

emmy

I took these photos last summer on a family trip to Venice, Florida (yes, I went to Florida in the summer - July 4th to be exact). My sister-and-law and I hit the thrift stores and found this orange MaryKate-and-Ashley sheer orange top to add some color and fun to the shots. It's not really something a 3 year-old would wear in "real life" but it works for a photo. I like the way doing black-and-whites on the beach gives the photos that old-fashioned vacation photo look.

moving day

shoppingcart_sofa

I spotted this sofa sitting in front of a neighbor's house. Kind of a cool vintage piece, but also not in the best shape. One day, the sofa disappeared, only to reappear in front of the playground on Russia. Then, about a week later, I find it tied to this shopping cart.
