bowing out

I've been working with this family for three years now when they won a bid on a photo shoot at a school auction. I photographed "C" when she was a baby, a one year old, etc.  And now "C" has a little sister!  We got together for a semi-newborn/sibling shoot and mom had C. decked-out in a big ol' bow. Now, I adore my clients and I want to make them happy but I was against the bow. I did a few shots and then came clean with the mom.  "She's gorgeous. She doesn't need the bow.  Let's lose it."  Mom reluctantly went along with my suggestion.  At the end, she asked that we put it back in to hold her hair back and I responded "she can wear a clip." I'm getting so bossy!

7am shoot

I got a referral from Stars for a portfolio shoot for a new model.  I asked the mom what the earliest time was that she could meet me for the shoot. When she said 7am, I knew I had to go to Sutro Baths!  I even picked-up a dress for the occasion, a gorgeous velvet shift from Peek which purchased at Nordstrom.  I'm now in love with the brand!

We did four looks.  Mom did some shopping of her own at the Gap and got a vivid pink wool peacoat.

Of course, it's not just the clothes that make the model, but in this case the clothes, model and location really came together beautifully.

Did a shoot this week with an aspiring actress/model. She really couldn't take a bad picture. We had some fun with the styling, too! Shy little sister made it into a few shots.

Many times I have done a shoot, only to see the same concept depicted in an ad or editorial the next day or week...Sometimes, the converse is true.  Take this example from some current Gap shots involving kids holding up picture frames outside. 

I did this idea for Baby Couture a few years ago.

This girl wants to be a model and she was workin' it at the shoot!  I'd sure book her.
