baby talk
Baby Talk/Good Morning America is having their annual cover model contest, open to babies 4 to 24 months of age by May 31st, 2009. I think my little friend here looks a lot like last year's winner!

indoors/outdoors
I took pictures of this 4 yo girl last Friday for her modeling/acting cards. We did one studio look and one out in the garden. She was a little worried about "bugs" when we were outside but really was a delight to work with, as were her parents. Check-out these huge hazel/green eyes!

barberella hair lounge
Various members of our family have been going to Barberella since it was Tom's on Cortland. Cid Peaters is the owner of the revamped and renamed salon and although kids aren't her specialty, she does a fabulous job on my guys. Cid is also a shutterbug so on our last visit I brought my camera with a lens I'd rented for some macro shots.
This shot of Cid's hand was taken by my seven-year-old son and it's the best one!

set design
I like to use a mannequin head when I'm testing out ideas for studio sets. The paper in this backdrop is actually a very high contrast black-and-white, but when you shoot wide open it looks soft and lacy.

look at her now
I first took pictures of this little girl for her modeling card when she was just one year old. Then, about a year later, her parents contacted me for new photos. They had put her modeling on hold and just wanted personal photos. It turned-out that I had a project she was right for, so it was the best of both worlds. The parents were fun to work with and the dad, who studied to be an ecologist, is also a great stylist - he is the one who thought of flipping-up the flaps to reshape the hat!
Here is a photo from our session when she was only one year old:
